How to Apply to a16z Speedrun with Finta

Prepare a speedrun evidence packet that separates product progress from unsupported claims.

By FintaPublished October 25, 2026

Aurora and Nova organize a fictional storyboard showing Product, Demo and Learning.

What you will learn

  • Prepare a speedrun evidence packet that separates product progress from unsupported claims.
  • Explain founder contributions and customer signals accurately.
  • Check residency expectations and submit through the official route.

Prepare a speedrun application by connecting what your team has built, what you understand about the customer, and what you need to learn next. Start from current evidence and the official application route. A polished description cannot substitute for an accurate account of the product, team, or progress.

This guide provides an application-evidence packet and an annotated example. It is independent preparation, not an a16z application form, recommendation, or admission assessment. Open the official speedrun application yourself.

Current call and residency context

Sources checked October 22, 2026. The official application page lists SR008 in San Francisco from February 1 to April 16, 2027. Its FAQ gives the application-window deadline as November 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. The site also describes year-round review, with applications after this window considered for a following residency. Application page and FAQ.

Review attendance and full-time-building expectations before applying. The FAQ distinguishes speedrun from the alpha fellowship and describes early-stage applicants, including solo founders. Do not borrow another program’s rules, assume that every team receives a headline maximum investment, or treat service credits as cash. Read the current terms directly when assessing an offer.

Build a packet that another founder can audit

The packet below is Finta’s preparation framework. It is not a reproduction of a private form or a claim about hidden evaluation weights. Keep source records private and place only the necessary, approved facts into the application.

Speedrun founder and company evidence packet

Packet componentWhat to prepareReview question
One-sentence explanationA specific customer, problem and present product actionWould an unfamiliar reader know what someone does with it?
Founder contributionOne concrete project or responsibility for each founderWhat did this person personally do?
Building recordA short sequence of shipped work and lessonsAre dates, prototype limitations and manual work visible?
Product evidenceA working demo or clearly labeled recording, if appropriateCan the reviewer access it without private customer information?
Customer signalInterviews, trials, repeat use or payments with definitionsAre these different stages being kept separate?
Team dynamicsHow the founders met and how work is dividedWhat have you actually built together?
Unresolved riskThe next assumption to test and the experimentWhat would count against the current idea?
Residency fitAvailability and the milestone you need help reachingHave you verified the actual current participation requirements?

Prepare in the order that reduces guesswork

  1. Write the product state. Identify what exists today, what is a prototype, and what remains a proposal. A synthetic demo is useful when labeled; it is not evidence of customer adoption.
  2. Select founder evidence. Replace a generic biography with a specific accomplishment and your own contribution. Do not use an employer’s results as if you produced them personally.
  3. Define the customer signal. Use a source date and denominator. A waitlist, a design partner, a paid customer and repeat use answer different questions.
  4. Choose one coherent idea. Explain the job, the current approach, and what you have learned. If you are exploring alternatives, say what is unresolved rather than combining several businesses into one vague pitch.
  5. Review live requirements. Check the actual form, optional materials, character limits, deadline and residency expectations before copying text across.

The official FAQ explains that production polish is not the central point of a founder video and asks founders to speak themselves rather than substitute an AI-generated voice. Keep preparation assistance separate from impersonation. Do not manufacture a demonstration, endorsement, or traction chart to make an application appear further along.

Worked example: show a useful signal without inflating it

Fictional teaching case. HarborOps builds a prototype for marina operators coordinating maintenance requests. Two founders completed four operator interviews and three supervised trials. One operator asked to test again, but nobody has paid and unsupervised use has not been tested.

An original example evidence packet

Weak claimGrounded revisionNext evidence action
Marinas love our product. One of three supervised trial participants requested a second test.Schedule the repeat test and define what independent completion means.
Our platform automates maintenance. Our prototype organizes incoming requests; a founder currently checks each assignment.Label the manual review in the demo and test the proposed rules.
We have a world-class team. One founder built the prototype; the other previously coordinated a marina’s maintenance schedule.Verify the biography and show the division of current work.
Speedrun will make us scale. We want to test whether a repeatable operator workflow exists before expanding.Explain the milestone and why this residency may fit; do not promise its outcome.

These are fictional teaching inputs, not a Finta customer result or an accepted speedrun application. A real answer should name only facts you can support. The best revision might be less dramatic and more informative.

Review the demo and its surrounding explanation

Ask a reviewer what they believe is live after seeing the demo. If they infer automatic assignment, a paid deployment, or access to private systems that you did not demonstrate, fix the narration. Remove notifications, credentials and customer records from the demonstration environment. Test the link with the intended access level.

The established product demo Field Guide provides a rehearsal and fallback process. Use the founder bio guide for an accurate background summary. Do not reproduce these complete resources inside the application.

Practice prompt: assemble a speedrun evidence brief

Try this with Aurora AI in Finta, Claude, or Codex. Supply only material you are authorized to share. This is a text-review exercise, not access to the accelerator portal or permission to send an application.

Help me prepare a speedrun application evidence brief.
Inputs: [current official questions and limits], [one company idea], [founder-confirmed contributions], [product or prototype state], [customer signals with dates and definitions], [demo description], [availability and participation questions].
Return: a concise company explanation; a founder-evidence table; an evidence-backed progress summary; and the three most consequential unknowns. Label all assumptions and distinguish supervised trials, repeat use, paying customers and revenue.
Suggest edits only from the material supplied. Do not fabricate achievements, private selection criteria, investment eligibility, access to the product or acceptance chances. Flag claims a demo description cannot establish. Finish with human review and official-form checks. Draft only; do not record a founder video, log in, send, submit or change anything.

Common application questions

Do I need a polished launch before preparing?

The current FAQ describes very early-stage teams. Read its eligibility guidance for your situation, and present the actual state rather than inventing traction.

Is the headline investment all immediate cash?

Do not assume so. Read the current capital terms and distinguish an upfront investment, conditional later funding, and credits. Preparation is not a personalized assessment of the deal.

Can I update my application?

The application page and FAQ describe status and update routes. Follow the current instructions in your own portal; do not assume that editing a Finta document changes a submitted application.

Review, then submit through the official channel

Read the final answers in the actual form, check every claim and attachment, and confirm the program and cohort again. Keep your own approved copy. The founder submits through speedrun’s official application route. Preparing a draft in Finta does not submit it or establish that it was received.

Use the accelerator directory to compare program types and the funding-application tracker to give each deadline and missing item an owner.

This is an independent Finta preparation guide, not an accelerator application portal or an endorsed admissions service. Finta does not predict admission or speak for the program.
