How to Apply to Creative Destruction Lab with Finta
Choose a CDL stream and location, prepare technical evidence, and turn your next commercial uncertainty into a practical objectives worksheet.

What you will learn
- Match a science or technology venture to a current CDL stream.
- Separate technical evidence, commercial assumptions and near-term objectives.
- Prepare an application while keeping a closed intake and future dates accurate.
To prepare a Creative Destruction Lab application, choose a plausible stream and location, organize the evidence behind your technology, and explain the commercial uncertainty you need to resolve next. Use the official CDL application page to verify the intake before submitting.
Status checked October 22, 2026: applications for the 2026/27 program are closed. The page retains past deadlines, including a general July 24, 2026 deadline and earlier exceptions. No new opening date is established here. Prepare useful evidence now; do not represent a past deadline as a future opportunity.
This independent Finta guide is not affiliated with CDL. It does not imply that participation guarantees an investment or that an assistant can secure admission.

What you will prepare
- A stream and location choice with a documented reason.
- A distinction between demonstrated technology and commercial assumptions.
- A short set of proposed learning objectives grounded in evidence.
Understand what CDL's model asks you to explain
CDL describes an objectives-based program for science- and technology-based ventures. Mentorship focuses on progress and short-term priorities. The practical preparation task is to show what is known, what is uncertain, and which next decision matters. Do not treat access to investors as a promised financing event.
Read the current stream descriptions. A specialized stream and the Prime stream offer different framing. Use the actual technology and commercialization problem to choose a route; do not select a fashionable category merely because it sounds more fundable.
Record stream and location fit
| Decision | Your record | Evidence or question |
|---|---|---|
| Technology or application focus | [Specific field and customer problem] | [Current official stream description] |
| Venture stage | [Research, prototype, validation or commercialization] | [What has actually been demonstrated?] |
| Location | [Selected site and participation constraints] | [Travel, team availability and relevant current rules] |
| Intake | [Current open/closed/unknown state] | [Official page and date checked] |
| Reason for fit | [One problem the stream could help you investigate] | [Specific evidence gap] |
Turn evidence into a proposed objective
- Write the technical claim narrowly. Include the test environment, method and limits. A laboratory result is not a customer deployment.
- Identify the customer use case. Explain who would use the technology and why the current alternative is insufficient. Keep customer interviews separate from purchase commitments.
- Find the next decision. Ask what evidence would change your view about feasibility, adoption or economics.
- Propose a bounded test. Define the work, responsible person and observable result. These are preparation suggestions, not the objectives CDL will assign.
- State constraints. Include equipment, IP rights, data access, safety, regulatory or partner dependencies. Seek qualified advice for legal or regulated decisions.
Evidence-to-objective worksheet
| Known fact | Unknown | Proposed test | Decision it informs | Evidence owner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| [Measured result and conditions] | [What may fail outside those conditions?] | [A bounded validation step] | [Continue, change approach, or stop] | [Responsible founder] |
| [Customer observation] | [Would a buyer adopt or pay?] | [Authorized discovery or feasibility study] | [Which use case deserves focus?] | [Commercial lead] |
| [Available resources] | [Can the team execute the test?] | [Equipment, time and permission check] | [Scope and sequence] | [Technical lead] |
Worked example: a materials result is not market validation
Fictional example: ReFormFilm has produced a new packaging film in a university laboratory. Its test sheets show barrier performance under one controlled humidity setting. The draft says the material is ready to replace conventional packaging worldwide. That conclusion is not supported by the supplied evidence.
A better application brief states: “We have demonstrated barrier performance under one laboratory condition. We have not established production yield, performance across shipping conditions, or customer acceptance. Our next decision is whether the material merits a pilot manufacturing study.”
A proposed objective could be to define the pilot's test conditions with an authorized packaging partner and identify a performance threshold before producing more samples. This explains why commercial and technical mentorship might matter while keeping the result, assumption and proposed work distinct. It does not imply a partner has agreed or that a regulator has approved the material.
Review the objective brief with Aurora
Give Aurora in Finta a permitted summary of the technology and the worksheet. Ask it to identify where your wording moves beyond the evidence and which unknown would change the next decision. Avoid sharing unpublished research, confidential methods or third-party data unless you have authorization.
Copyable AI practice prompt
Try this with Aurora AI in Finta, Claude, or Codex. Supply only information you are authorized to share. Tool access and capabilities differ; review the output yourself.

Selected stream/site and official source: [URL, description, date]
Technical evidence: [method, conditions, result, limits]
Commercial observations: [authorized facts, sources and dates]
Unknowns and constraints: [items]
Proposed objective: [work, owner, evidence and next decision]
Return a fact/assumption/proposed-work table and challenge unsupported technical or market claims. Suggest one bounded test for each consequential unknown, with a decision it would inform. Do not invent experimental results, IP rights, regulatory approval, investments, deadlines or acceptance probabilities. Do not contact anyone, submit forms or change records.
Prepare without inventing the next intake
Keep the evidence dossier useful even while applications are closed. Refresh current stream information, record substantial new results, and recheck the official intake page when a future window is announced. Do not change a previous publication date or invent a deadline to create urgency.
- Read the current stream and location requirements.
- Check factual consistency across the application, company website and demonstration.
- Confirm rights to disclose scientific, IP and customer material.
- Separate program terms from possible later investor discussions.
- Have a founder verify and submit through the official route when a valid intake is available.
Common questions
Are applications open?
The official page checked on October 22, 2026 states that the 2026/27 window is closed. Check it again for a new announcement; this guide does not infer a reopening date.
Does CDL invest automatically in participating companies?
The program description discusses opportunities to raise capital. That is different from a guaranteed investment. Verify any investment offer separately.
Should I choose Prime or a specialist stream?
Compare your actual technology, use case and evidence with the current stream descriptions. Record why a route fits and ask the program about ambiguity rather than relabeling the venture to match a trend.
Your next step
Complete one evidence-to-objective row and one stream-fit record. For other models, see Finta's startup accelerator directory. If you need a clearer technical demonstration, use the product-demo guide as a separate communication exercise.
This guide provides general preparation education. Obtain qualified legal, IP, regulatory or accounting advice for decisions that require it.
