UK Venture Capital: 32 Firms, Angel Networks and Regional Funds

Compare British venture capital firms, angel networks and regional equity routes by stage, sector and mandate. Build a focused UK investor shortlist.

Separate British software, science and engineering ecosystems linked across an island landscape

The UK investor market contains several different jobs: a first pre-seed cheque, specialist science capital, a member-led angel process, expansion equity and public co-investment. Start with the round's next milestone, then compare stage, sector and geographic conditions together.

This guide compares 32 British venture firms, investor platforms, angel networks and regional equity routes. It combines the existing London, Cambridge and North West research, adds current routes in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and counts managers with several offices only once. It is a selected research directory, not a league table.

Choose the right UK capital route

  • First company round: compare the published early-stage approaches of Techstart, Ada, Connect, Hoxton, Episode 1 and other relevant firms below.
  • University and technical development: compare Cambridge Enterprise Ventures, CIC, IP Group/Parkwalk, Amadeus, IQ and Northern Gritstone against the actual research connection and milestone.
  • Commercial scale: Molten and Mercia currently describe Series A-and-beyond routes. A good growth fit is not automatically a first-cheque fit.
  • Angel conversations: Cambridge Angels and NorthInvest organize member access; GC Angels also describes direct co-investment. Keep those decision structures distinct.
  • Regional equity: compare operating geography and financing structure, not simply the nearest office. Public co-investment may require private funding to be secured first.

Compare 32 investor routes in United Kingdom

Use provider type, stage and geographic connection together. An office address is not a promise of eligibility. Where the current source does not establish a precise entry stage, the table leaves that question open.

Selected UK investor platforms, angel networks and regional equity routes, researched October 29, 2026. Not a performance ranking. On small screens, scroll the table sideways to see every column.

Compare the UK nations and regional mandates

A national guide should show where a regional route changes the fundraising task. Techstart publishes separate Scotland and Northern Ireland investment contacts. Scottish Enterprise describes co-investment alongside private investors, while the Development Bank of Wales has a dedicated technology-equity team. These routes do not become interchangeable because all operate within the UK.

Within England, Cambridge Enterprise's university connection differs from a London-based European fund's mandate. In the North, PXN's investment programs, Northern Gritstone's research ecosystem and LYVA's Liverpool City Region focus each create a different fit question. Foresight's published North West route also covers specified neighboring areas; it is not an unrestricted national seed offer.

Record three separate facts: office location, stated investment geography, and the company's required operating connection. Ask the responsible team about unresolved conditions before making a location or structural decision.

Match the evidence to the investor's specialty

A scientific company should show what is technically demonstrated, what still needs development and how the next milestone creates commercial value. A B2B software company should make the buyer, workflow and customer evidence clear. A growth company should explain what is repeatable and what new capital would scale.

For example, o2h's current flagship page focuses on UK biotech, MMC emphasizes AI and data-driven companies, and Notion describes European business software. Those labels are useful starting filters, not substitutes for reading the current strategy and relevant portfolio. Write one source-backed reason for each candidate to remain on the shortlist.

Identify who makes the funding decision

A fund investment committee, a university investment team, a member-led angel network and a public co-investor do not follow one universal process. Cambridge Angels connects member investors with companies; Scottish Enterprise's published routes involve private investment partners or an existing funding offer. IP Group and Parkwalk share a parent platform but use distinct capital vehicles.

Keep a separate record for the provider and specific vehicle. Verify that a button leads to a founder funding route, not fund-investor onboarding, an event registration or a loan form. A directory link is an opening for research, not a commitment to invest.

Investor profiles and official routes

These profiles are a research aid, not a performance ranking. Read the current strategy and portfolio before sharing a deck. A public contact route does not establish that a firm has available allocation for your round.

Ahren Innovation Capital

Science and deep-tech investment firm. UK investment partnership with an international company portfolio. Its stated range covers company formation as well as later growth. Explain the scientific advance and the market it could unlock; the company stage alone does not establish a fit with its deep-tech and deep-science approach.

Ahren Innovation Capital: official investment information · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Amadeus Capital Partners

Deep-tech venture firm. Offices in London, Cambridge and Oxford. Compare the relevant Intelligence, Human or Planet investment area. A quantum-computing team, a medical-technology company and an industrial materials business need different technical evidence even when all three fit the broad deep-tech category.

Amadeus Capital Partners: official investment information · Published proposal route · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Cambridge Angels

Business angel network. UK network rooted in Cambridge. Research the published company application process and the relevant member expertise. The network is counted once: an invitation to present begins conversations with individual investors, rather than committing a pooled fund to your round.

Cambridge Angels: official investment information

Cambridge Enterprise Ventures

University investment platform. University of Cambridge spinouts and connected founders. This route invests University of Cambridge capital and supports academics, students, graduates and recent alumni. Establish the actual university connection before treating it as an alternative to a general UK seed fund.

Cambridge Enterprise Ventures: official investment information · Contact

Cambridge Innovation Capital

Research-ecosystem venture investor. Cambridge ecosystem; University of Cambridge relationship. Match the technology to the current investment team and commercialization path. The venture-investment route is distinct from its associated accelerator programs; the current site says Start Codon is not processing new applications, so accelerator admission is not an assumed funding route.

Cambridge Innovation Capital: official investment information · Additional official strategy or location evidence

IP Group / Parkwalk

Science investment and fund-management platform. UK research institutions; London office. The parent and its wholly owned Parkwalk business appear as one platform entry here, with distinct capital routes. Identify whether the conversation concerns group balance-sheet capital or a particular Parkwalk-managed vehicle; shared ownership does not mean one universal application process.

IP Group / Parkwalk: official investment information · Contact · Additional official strategy or location evidence

IQ Capital

Deep-tech venture firm. European deep tech; London office. Explain the difficult technical milestone and the commercial inflection point this round should reach. Choose the relevant early-stage or growth route rather than assuming a growth-fund announcement changes the first-cheque criteria.

IQ Capital: official investment information · Contact · Additional official strategy or location evidence

o2h Ventures

Specialist biotech investment platform. UK human-health companies. The current homepage foregrounds a growth-stage human-health vehicle, not a general software seed fund. Bring the drug-development or platform evidence and ask which current strategy applies; investor-subscription documents are not founder pitch forms.

o2h Ventures: official investment information · Contact

Index Ventures

Multi-stage venture firm. London within an international investment platform. Use its stated multi-stage philosophy to identify the right partner and entry round. Its London presence is one access point to a cross-border platform, not evidence that the mandate is confined to British companies.

Index Ventures: official investment information · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Seedcamp

Early-stage venture platform. European founder ecosystem with a UK base. Start with the current first-company investment proposition and the team relevant to your product. Later financing announcements for existing portfolio companies should not be substituted for the criteria governing a new first investment.

Seedcamp: official investment information · Contact Us

Octopus Ventures

Sector-specialist venture investor. European venture platform within Octopus Investments. Choose the actual sector team and show the product's evidence in that sector. Bio, healthcare and consumer applications are not interchangeable simply because they share a customer outcome such as wellbeing.

Octopus Ventures: official investment information · Contact · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Hoxton Ventures

Early-stage venture firm. London-based; European founders with US-market ambition. Its current approach explicitly looks for European technology businesses with ambition to tackle the US market early. Explain why that market matters to the company, the category being created and the team's relevant insight, rather than adding a US expansion slide as decoration.

Hoxton Ventures: official investment information · Contact

Notion Capital

Business-software venture investor. European focus; UK operating base. Connect the product to an identifiable business customer and a durable software business. Use its current portfolio and investment themes to prepare a specific conversation; Notion Capital is the investor, not the similarly named productivity app.

Notion Capital: official investment information · Get in touch

MMC Ventures

AI and data-focused venture firm. European early-stage technology. MMC describes Series A as its deepest specialization and seed as selective. Show how proprietary technology or data supports a customer outcome, then match the round's evidence to the relevant team rather than using AI as a broad label.

MMC Ventures: official investment information · Contact us

Dawn Capital

B2B technology venture firm. London office; international technology portfolio. The current site emphasizes a long-standing B2B focus. A founder should explain the business workflow, buyer and commercial evidence; the exact first-investment stage should be checked directly rather than inferred from a portfolio company's latest financing.

Dawn Capital: official investment information

Episode 1 Ventures

B2B software venture firm. UK venture partnership; London base. The stated job is the journey from a first software round toward Series A. Prepare the product insight, customer learning and milestone plan that make that progression credible, rather than sending a deck built only around market size.

Episode 1 Ventures: official investment information

AlbionVC

Specialist early-stage venture firm. European founders; London contact office. Match the company to one of its four current focus areas and use the founder contact or pitch route. The separate adviser and individual-investor area concerns people investing into funds, not founders raising a company round.

AlbionVC: official investment information · Contact Us · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Molten Ventures

Venture and growth investment platform. European investment platform with a UK presence. Its current direct-investment proposition starts at Series A. The separately presented seed fund-of-funds activity is not another direct pre-seed cheque to count or a reason to send the same application to two parts of the platform.

Molten Ventures: official investment information · Contact Us

SFC Capital

Early-stage investment platform. UK startup route with London and regional offices. Use the startup-specific Raise route rather than the fund-investor pages. Ask the team to confirm the company criteria for the current vehicle; this directory does not determine anyone's tax treatment or qualification for a tax-advantaged structure.

SFC Capital: official investment information · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Connect Ventures

Early-stage venture firm. London-based; Europe-wide. Use connectventures.co for the European investor. A similarly named US venture firm uses a different domain and strategy. Record the legal entity, partner and current thesis so a name match does not send your deck to the wrong organization.

Connect Ventures: official investment information

Ada Ventures

First-round venture firm. UK and Northern Europe with a UK connection; London and Bristol. Ada's current approach emphasizes the first funding round and the founder's insight, not an already polished growth business. Explain the problem and why the team understands it; verify the UK connection and relevant theme using the current strategy.

Ada Ventures: official investment information

PXN Ventures

Regional venture platform. North of England. Pick the actual investment program before comparing it with a national fund. Northern operating relevance and the company's stage are useful filters, while separate regional vehicles remain one manager entry in this directory.

PXN Ventures: official investment information · Contact

Mercia Ventures

Venture investor. Ambitious UK businesses. Use Mercia's current Series A-and-beyond positioning, not an older all-stage shorthand. Bring evidence of early traction and the next scaling challenge; the public conversation route can clarify which managed vehicle applies.

Mercia Ventures: official investment information · Contact us · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Foresight regional investment funds

Regional growth-equity manager. Published North West route covers North West England, Yorkshire and North Wales. This comparison uses Foresight's regional small-business equity route, not every infrastructure or public-markets strategy in the group. Check the relevant region and the company's maturity before treating it as a substitute for a first product-development round.

Foresight regional investment funds: official investment information · Contact Us

GC Angels

Early-stage co-investor and angel platform. Greater Manchester and the wider North West. GC Angels describes direct investment alongside private capital. Discuss the local operating connection and other round participants. The parent site's generic loan application is not the equity pitch route, so start with the published Angels information or contact team.

GC Angels: official investment information · Equity team contact, not the loan application

NorthInvest

Angel-investor network and matching platform. North of England. Use the founder Raise Investment route to check its current process and member fit. Count the network once and keep any individual angel's decision separate from network selection, mentoring or presentation support.

NorthInvest: official investment information · Contact

Northern Gritstone

Science and technology investment firm. North of England innovation ecosystem. Explain the research foundation and how it becomes a globally useful product. Its innovation services and co-investment activities complement investment but are not separate funds to add to the headline count.

Northern Gritstone: official investment information

Ascension

Early-stage venture platform. London-based; UK, Europe and North America. Compare the generalist and thesis-driven funds rather than treating the whole portfolio as one broad mandate. A clear first-round milestone and the relevant mission or sector evidence make the first conversation more useful.

Ascension: official investment information

LYVA Labs

Regional pre-seed equity investor. Liverpool City Region; current route also describes relocation. Use the equity-investment route, not the separate SME grant program. Its published scope excludes several adjacent fields, including pharma and consumer health, so a generic health label is insufficient; ask the team about the specific company and product.

LYVA Labs: official investment information · Contact Us

Techstart Ventures

First-cheque venture firm. Founders building from Scotland or Northern Ireland. Its current approach does not require product-market fit or revenue for a first investment. The investment page invites short answers about insight, team and what the round will prove, with separate Scotland and Northern Ireland contact routes.

Techstart Ventures: official investment information · Additional official strategy or location evidence

Scottish Enterprise

Public equity co-investor. Scottish company connection; current published criteria apply. Both the Scottish Co-investment Fund and Scottish Venture Fund work alongside private investors. This is a co-investment research task, not a replacement for finding a lead: read the distinct partner and funding-offer process before approaching the team.

Scottish Enterprise: official investment information · Contact us

Development Bank of Wales

Public development investor with a technology-equity team. Businesses in Wales or considering a Welsh base; confirm current criteria. The technology-venture team offers equity as a distinct route from ordinary business loans. Bring the technical position, development milestone and Welsh operating plan to the initial discussion; do not treat a general finance application as a completed investment assessment.

Development Bank of Wales: official investment information · Additional official strategy or location evidence

A worked shortlist for a Belfast software team

Illustrative exercise, not an investment recommendation. A Belfast-based team has a working B2B workflow product, several customer interviews and a first paid pilot. It is planning its first financing round to test repeatable customer value, not funding clinical development or an established expansion plan.

Methodology, research date and local guides

Research checked October 29, 2026 by the Finta Editorial Team with AI-assisted source review. We reconciled provider names from our existing city research and reviewed current official strategy, portfolio, location or founder-contact pages. Firms with multiple offices count once; angel networks count as networks, not one committed pooled fund. We distinguish local presence from investment mandate and company eligibility. We do not infer check sizes, investor returns, lead behavior or open allocation from a portfolio logo.

The list reconciles the three established city and regional guides below with current primary sources. IP Group and its Parkwalk subsidiary are one platform entry with distinct routes; multiple PXN or Foresight vehicles do not multiply the manager count. Techstart, Scottish Enterprise and the Development Bank of Wales were added through direct primary research to improve national coverage. The list does not claim to contain every active UK investor.

Informational purposes only. Finta is not a law firm or accounting firm. This directory is general fundraising information, not personalized financial, legal or tax advice. Ask your attorney or accountant about legal structures, tax treatment or eligibility questions affecting your company.

This is a selected research directory, not an exhaustive register or sponsored ranking. Confirm the current vehicle, team and process directly before relying on a fit decision.

Make the next fundraising step specific

Choose a small set of defensible matches, record the open question, and assign the next action. Use our investor-shortlist guide and warm-introduction guide to prepare the conversation. A longer list should make the research better, not turn into an indiscriminate mailing list.
