Sacramento venture capital reaches beyond the city center. A founder can research software investors in Folsom, a venture platform built around Greater Sacramento, specialist angels in Davis and life-science investment connected to UC Davis. This guide compares eight distinct investment routes, with office locations, investment scope and founder next steps clearly separated. Start with the company you are building, then choose the investor or program that fits its next milestone.
Compare the funding routes
| Organization | Type and stage | Local connection | Useful first question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Moneta Ventures | VC; seed and Series A | Folsom office; California and Texas | What makes our software and monetization distinctive? |
| Sacramento Angels | Angel group; seed and selected pre-seed | Sacramento; Northern California preferred | What customer evidence supports this round? |
| Growth Factory Ventures | Early-stage VC and venture studio | Greater Sacramento roots and broader reach | Where would operator support change our next milestone? |
| CerraCap Impact Venture Capital | VC; early-stage strategy | El Dorado Hills office | Which enterprise customer problem can we prove? |
| DiverseCity Ventures | Impact VC; early-stage | Sacramento headquarters | Is positive impact integral to a scalable business? |
| Food & Health Angels | Specialist angel group; early-stage | Davis roots; global investment scope | What supports technical and commercial feasibility? |
| Aggie Venture Accelerator | Accelerator with a selective investment fund | UC Davis and Sacramento programming | Does our life-science company fit the program? |
| NorCal AngelCon | Cycle-based angel investment program | Greater Sacramento regional ties | When is the next applicable selection cycle? |
Research approach: Reviewed first-party organizations, university programs and organization-controlled location profiles on October 14, 2026. This is a selected founder shortlist, not a ranking. Funds, angel groups and investment programs are different routes. A listed application or contact path does not imply available capital or guaranteed investment. NorCal AngelCon's 2026 application deadline has passed; its fall cohort remains in progress.
Moneta Ventures
Moneta Ventures invests at seed and Series A in enterprise software. Its Software++ thesis combines a mission-critical product with differentiated technology and monetization beyond an ordinary SaaS subscription. The published strategy names California and Texas, while its California office is in Folsom. Prepare a brief explaining the customer's problem, the technical advantage and the additional value your business creates through data, network effects or other substantiated assets. Use Moneta's funding form rather than its general contact form, which explicitly excludes funding inquiries.
Sacramento Angels
Sacramento Angels primarily invests at seed and selectively at pre-seed. Its entrepreneur page highlights B2B software, medtech, sustainability, agtech and deep tech, with a preference for Northern California. Customer or partner validation, defensible differentiation and a milestone-based use of capital belong in the preparation packet. The group accepts applications through its linked Dealum route and can lead or follow a round. Review the current application calendar before submitting. A screening invitation, presentation and member interest are steps in the process, not an investment commitment.
Growth Factory Ventures
Growth Factory Ventures combines early investment with a venture studio and an operator network. Its current story connects the platform to company building in Greater Sacramento and describes an expansion beyond that original backyard. The Growth Factory landing page separates the venture organization from the nonprofit that provides entrepreneur programming. Keep those purposes distinct in your shortlist. For an introduction, describe the product's demand signal and the specific operating challenge where a partner could help. Start with the venture platform's reach-out page, which also links its founder application.
CerraCap Impact Venture Capital
CerraCap Impact Venture Capital is the combined platform formed by CerraCap Ventures and Impact Venture Capital. Its current site lists an El Dorado Hills office alongside Costa Mesa and Dallas, so it belongs in a Sacramento-metro search without being described as Sacramento-only. The firm connects technology investment with enterprise commercialization, customer access and strategic relationships. Prepare evidence of the business problem, who would buy the solution and what remains to be validated. Use its contact route to establish the applicable stage and vehicle. Do not list the former Impact firm as another independent investor.
DiverseCity Ventures
DiverseCity Ventures backs scalable, tech-enabled businesses whose positive social, economic or environmental impact is part of the business itself. Its current thesis distinguishes early-stage investing from pre-seed advisory work, and its organization-controlled profile identifies Sacramento headquarters. A founder should explain both commercial scale and the mechanism producing impact, rather than attaching a general social-purpose statement to an unrelated pitch. The Pitch Us form asks for a coherent story covering the market, revenue model and go-to-market plan. Advisory support is not automatically a funded investment.
Food & Health Angels
Food & Health Angels was founded in Davis and shaped by the UC Davis and Sacramento food-and-health ecosystem. Its published investment thesis is global, not restricted to local companies. It focuses on early-stage science and technology improving food, metabolic health, performance and healthy longevity. A suitable brief connects technical feasibility to a defined customer and commercially scalable benefit. The website provides founder criteria and a linked funding application. This is an independent angel group, not a university grant program. Keep science evidence, commercial assumptions and the remaining validation work separate in your materials.
Aggie Venture Accelerator
Aggie Venture Accelerator supports early-stage life-science companies addressing human, animal and planetary health. UC Davis's program page describes in-person Sacramento programming, mentorship and company-building work. A separate AVA Fund, managed by The March Group, invests in selected participating startups. Research the current cohort and founder requirements before treating this as a funding option. Prepare the core technology story, team readiness and the milestone the program could help achieve. Accelerator participation and investment consideration are separate decisions. The fund and its program are one route here, not two extra entries.
NorCal AngelCon
NorCal AngelCon combines investor education, founder preparation and a selected-company equity investment. Sacramento State's current program page describes pre-seed through pre-Series A companies with meaningful ties to the eight-county Greater Sacramento region. It welcomes all sectors, with additional deep-tech support. The detailed 2026 timeline gives a May 27 application deadline and fall investment selection, despite an “Applications Open” heading. That deadline has passed. Use the page to understand the program and ask about the next cycle, not as a rolling application to a continuously open venture fund.
Public angel profiles and investment-capacity checks
Mark Haney's own public site identifies him as an angel investor with a Sacramento-company portfolio. That supports describing his public investing background, not inventing a separate personal application process. His Growth Factory affiliation is already covered above; do not count it again as a second pool of capital.
Black Star Fund is a Black-led venture firm focused primarily on Black founders. Its official page describes Fund II as fundraising. Confirm which vehicle is currently considering new companies through its contact page before adding it to an active outreach queue. It is not included in the eight-route count above.
Founder support is useful without being another investor
AgStart provides commercialization support, mentors and lab resources for agriculture, food and health companies in Northern California, including its Woodland facility. Those resources can help a founder prepare scientific and customer evidence; lab membership is not a venture investment.
The Growth Factory nonprofit and venture organizations now have separate missions. Choose the nonprofit for its entrepreneur-development work and the venture platform for investment discussions. Neither is an extra fund merely because they share a history.
Choose the company story before the funding route
Use this worksheet to turn the comparison into a focused research plan. Keep the source beside each answer so your team can revisit it when a strategy or application cycle changes.
| Check | Evidence to collect | What to do with it |
|---|---|---|
| Software differentiation | Technology, buyer and monetization model | Explain the relevance to Moneta's Software++ thesis |
| Angel materials | Customer validation, milestones and proposed round | Prepare the current Sacramento Angels or specialist angel process |
| Science-based company | Core technology, team and commercialization work | Compare Food & Health Angels, AVA and lab support |
| Enterprise access | Target customer, buying process and product evidence | Research CerraCap Impact's commercialization fit |
| Local connection | Actual office, investment mandate or regional program ties | Do not equate a nearby address with company eligibility |
| Timing | Open intake, invited studio or dated selection cycle | Assign a next step that is available now |
Worked example (fictional): A Sacramento software team and a life-science spinout share a mailing area but need different materials. The software brief explains differentiated technology and monetization. The spinout compares a specialist angel group with AVA's company-building program and AgStart's lab resources. Both record the applicable intake process. The result is a relevant preparation list, not eight copies of the same city-based email.
Keep the shortlist moving in Finta
