A Japan investor shortlist should separate the financing job from the partnership or university relationship. Independent VCs, corporate-backed strategies and academic investment companies can all be useful, but they do not evaluate the same company evidence or offer the same route into a round.
This guide compares 16 venture firms and startup investment platforms using current official sources. It expands our Tokyo research into a national comparison, including Kyoto and Osaka research commercialization, US-Japan investment, and the difference between direct company capital, a corporate pilot and a fund-of-funds strategy.
Choose the Japan investment route that matches the company
- First company or first institutional round: research ANRI, Incubate Fund and JAFCO's venture route against founder, product and customer evidence.
- B2B software in Japan or APAC: use the current DNX Capital team and distinguish it from the US-focused DNX Technology Ventures proposition.
- Academia-linked science: compare UTokyo IPC, Kyoto iCAP and OUVC by the actual research connection and commercialization job.
- Technical company building: Beyond Next and DEEPCORE connect capital with distinct research, AI or incubation propositions.
- Cross-border business: compare the specific Japan/Asia mandates at Genesia, Global Brain and Scrum, not a generic global label.
- Corporate collaboration: identify which Global Brain, SBI or Spiral strategy is evaluating equity and which is exploring a commercial partnership.
Compare 16 investor routes in Japan
Use provider type, stage and geographic connection together. An office address is not a promise of eligibility. Where the current source does not establish a precise entry stage, the table leaves that question open.
Selected venture firms and university-linked investment platforms relevant to Japan, researched October 29, 2026. Not a performance ranking. On small screens, scroll the table sideways to see every column.

Keep an equity round separate from a corporate pilot
Scrum distinguishes venture investing from its Studio co-creation platform. Spiral separates its financial-return funds from strategic investment and corporate collaboration. SBI and Global Brain also present investment alongside open-innovation activity. The shared logo does not make the transactions the same.
Record two next steps when appropriate: what the investor must evaluate for an equity round, and what the potential customer must validate in a pilot. Keep commercial commitments, permissions and financing decisions separate. A useful introduction is progress in a relationship, not a signed investment or purchase order.
Show the research-to-company connection for a university route
UTokyo IPC's current overview separates direct startup capital, joint-venture and carve-out work, and the ASA academic fund-of-funds strategy. Kyoto iCAP connects investment with commercialization of research knowledge; OUVC describes incubation, open innovation and established university-venture investing.
Build a short evidence map: research source, technical result, company relationship, authorized intellectual-property position, prospective customer and next development milestone. Identify which facts are established and which require university or adviser confirmation. A conference appearance or university address does not establish rights to research or investment eligibility.
Use the current team and entry stage, not an old combined profile
DNX's current website separates the Japan/APAC B2B team, DNX Capital, from DNX Technology Ventures in Silicon Valley. The Japan team's site records the independent-brand change in September 2026. Keep the old DNX Ventures name as a research alias; do not create two counts for the same Japan route.
Genesia makes a different distinction: seed entry versus later support for existing portfolio companies. JAFCO separates venture investing from buyouts. A directory should make these differences visible instead of spreading every historic stage and geography across every current vehicle.
Bring customer evidence alongside the technology
For B2B software, explain the buyer, current process, product use and evidence of value. For physical or scientific technology, add the validation conditions, remaining technical risk and path to production or clinical development. For an AI company, show why the system improves the relevant job beyond an impressive demonstration.
Use the national comparison to select an evidence conversation, then the existing Tokyo guide for local ecosystem context. Avoid unsupported claims that a particular cultural script, introduction method or application format guarantees access to Japanese investors.
Investor profiles and official routes
These profiles are a research aid, not a performance ranking. Read the current strategy and portfolio before sharing a deck. A public contact route does not establish that a firm has available allocation for your round.
ANRI
Independent venture capital firm. Tokyo office; Japanese startup ecosystem. Its current rendered site emphasizes founders before broad market recognition and distinguishes investment from its incubation spaces. Explain the company's original insight and evidence. The site does not establish one exact entry stage for every vehicle, so confirm the fund rather than infer a cheque from participation in an incubation community.
ANRI: official investment information · Current official founder contact
Coral Capital
Japan-focused venture investor. Japanese startup ecosystem; cross-border capital connections. Its current platform spans several company stages and combines capital with a portfolio ecosystem. State whether the company needs first-product validation or a later scaling round. Talent and community resources are support propositions, not evidence that a prospective company has been accepted or will receive a particular outcome.
Coral Capital: official investment information · Official investment-team contact
DNX Capital
Japan/APAC B2B venture team; former DNX Ventures Japan team. Japan at the core of an APAC investment remit. The current DNX site separates DNX Capital in Japan from DNX Technology Ventures in Silicon Valley. Use the Japan/APAC B2B route for this comparison, not an old combined geography statement. Show the customer workflow and business evidence; an introduction to one team is not an application to both.
DNX Capital: official investment information · Current Japan/APAC investment team · Additional official strategy or location evidence
Genesia Ventures
Seed-stage venture firm. Japan, Southeast Asia and India. Its current strategy distinguishes seed entry from additional funding beyond Series A for existing portfolio companies. Do not describe that follow-on capability as an unrestricted new Series B mandate. Explain the company's actual operating market and the customer or industry structure it changes.
Genesia Ventures: official investment information · Official team contact · Additional official strategy or location evidence
Global Brain
Independent venture manager with multiple fund strategies. Japan and wider Asian, North American and European activity. The published investment page gives a broad sector and stage proposition and a staged review process. Identify the relevant vehicle and strategic boundaries before treating the entire platform as a fit. Corporate collaboration and investment decisions are distinct, and the fastest advertised process is not a guaranteed decision time.
Global Brain: official investment information · Official company contact
GLOBIS Capital Partners
Venture investment firm. Tokyo investment company; Japanese startup ecosystem. Its current site frames the investment relationship around entrepreneurs and industry creation. Research the team and current portfolio in relation to the company's problem, then confirm stage and vehicle directly. This is the investment manager, not a business-school course or educational-program application.
GLOBIS Capital Partners: official investment information · Official investment-manager contact · Additional official strategy or location evidence
Incubate Fund
Company-formation and early-round venture firm. Tokyo headquarters; confirm vehicle-specific scope. Its stated approach emphasizes first rounds and founder partnership through the early company-building years. Distinguish investment from Incubate Camp and other community activities. Participation in an event, program or founder network is not itself an equity commitment.
Incubate Fund: official investment information · Official founder contact instructions
JAFCO
Venture and buyout investment platform. Domestic Japanese venture-investment strategy. Use the venture route when researching a young company. The current page explicitly discusses founders before or shortly after formation, while buyout investing is a separate business. Do not combine the group's historical overseas and buyout totals into a claim about current domestic startup opportunities.
JAFCO: official investment information · Official investment contact
SBI Investment
Group-backed venture investment manager. Japanese investment platform with domestic and overseas strategies. Identify the specific fund and investment job rather than rely on the breadth of the SBI brand. The platform presents both investment and open-innovation activities. A corporate partnership, technology demonstration or bank relationship is not automatically an equity investment review.
SBI Investment: official investment information · Official company investment contact
UTokyo IPC
University-owned investment and commercialization platform. University of Tokyo-linked research ecosystem; vehicle-specific scope. Its current fund overview distinguishes direct startup investment, joint ventures and carve-outs, and an academic fund-of-funds strategy. The ASA fund is not another direct cheque to count for a company. Establish the academic and commercial connection before selecting the appropriate route.
UTokyo IPC: official investment information · Official commercialization and investment contact
Kyoto iCAP
University-owned venture investment company. Kyoto University and Japanese university research commercialization. The current platform links investment to commercializing research knowledge and separates investment from entrepreneur-in-residence and matching programs. Prepare the research relationship, development result and company-building need. A Kyoto address alone does not establish the necessary academic or investment fit.
Kyoto iCAP: official investment information · Official company consultation route · Additional official strategy or location evidence
Osaka University Venture Capital
University-owned investment company. University of Osaka and other national-university venture routes. Its policy distinguishes incubation investment, open-innovation investment and investment in established university ventures. Match the actual research and company status to the route. A grant-selection or academic-support announcement is not proof that the company has received a venture equity investment.

Beyond Next Ventures
Deep-tech investment and company-creation firm. Tokyo headquarters; separate India activities. The current investment approach connects research commercialization with financing and company building. Explain the technical result, management gap and next commercial milestone. Its company-creation, talent and accelerator activities support different jobs and should not be counted as additional independent investors.
Beyond Next Ventures: official investment information · Official company-building and funding contact · Additional official strategy or location evidence
Spiral Capital
Direct venture and strategic-investment platform. Domestic Japanese startup funds; separate strategic mandates. Its current fund page separates financial-return venture funds from Spiral Innovation Partners' strategic investment and co-creation activity. Decide whether the company's immediate job is financing, corporate collaboration or both. A commercial pilot should not be presented as an investment commitment.
Spiral Capital: official investment information · Official investment-team contact
Scrum Ventures
Cross-border early-stage venture firm. US and Japan investing; San Francisco-based platform. Scrum's current investment page explicitly connects the US and Japan. Its venture investment and Scrum Studio's corporate co-creation platform are different propositions. Explain the reason for a Japanese customer or partner strategy; do not present access to corporate relationships as guaranteed sales or introductions.
Scrum Ventures: official investment information · Contact
DEEPCORE
AI-focused incubator and venture investor. Japanese platform; published global startup scope. The current rendered site distinguishes venture investment from its KERNEL community and startup programs. Show the technical capability and the industry problem it solves, not just a model demo. A community place or accelerator relationship is not evidence of admission to an investment fund.

A worked shortlist for a Kyoto research-based startup
Illustrative exercise, not a funding recommendation. A Kyoto research team has demonstrated a new sensing technology in the lab. It has an early company plan and two potential industrial users. The research relationship and IP arrangements still need formal confirmation. It is not a recurring-revenue software company.
Convert names into evidence-gathering tasks
| Route | Initial decision | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Kyoto iCAP | Research the commercialization route | What research connection, company status and next proof does the current vehicle require? |
| Beyond Next Ventures | Research deep-tech company building | What engineering milestone and management capability are missing? |
| JAFCO Venture | Research the early-company proposition | What makes the technology into a credible business and team? |
| UTokyo IPC ASA Fund | Hold this specific route | The published fund-of-funds strategy is not a direct startup application. |
| Corporate pilot | Track separately from equity | Who can validate the industrial use, under what permitted terms? |
The next deliverable is a research-to-company evidence map and a small set of focused conversations. Have the relevant institution and qualified advisers clarify IP and company arrangements; do not ask an AI tool to decide legal rights.

Methodology, research date and local guides
Research checked October 29, 2026 by the Finta Editorial Team with AI-assisted source review. We reconciled provider names from our existing city research and reviewed current official strategy, portfolio, location or founder-contact pages. Firms with multiple offices count once; angel networks count as networks, not one committed pooled fund. We distinguish local presence from investment mandate and company eligibility. We do not infer check sizes, investor returns, lead behavior or open allocation from a portfolio logo.
This national directory uses the established Tokyo list as a discovery seed and adds current official university, independent-venture and cross-border sources. English and Japanese primary pages were reviewed; nominal language routes are not assumed to match the rendered language. ANRI and DEEPCORE required ordinary public-browser rendering because their initial HTML captures were incomplete. Separate managers with a similar university association are not merged, while renamed teams and multiple vehicles under one platform are not counted twice.
Informational purposes only. Finta is not a law firm or accounting firm. This is general fundraising information, not personalized financial, legal or tax advice. Discuss research permissions, IP and licensing, financing documents and tax consequences with your attorney or accountant and the relevant institution.
This is a selected research directory, not an exhaustive register or sponsored ranking. Confirm the current vehicle, team and process directly before relying on a fit decision.
Make the next fundraising step specific
Choose a small set of defensible matches, record the open question, and assign the next action. Use our investor-shortlist guide and warm-introduction guide to prepare the conversation. A longer list should make the research better, not turn into an indiscriminate mailing list.
